Remember the old days when elginARTworks first started having open mics? The shows were called Open Mic w/Snowy and Friends. Snowy(Thomas) and Logan felt it was a lot of pressure but look how they turned out: Logan plays regularly with the likes of Phil Ayliffe, David Adams, and Sammy Barr and while Logan has yet to find a love for the stage he can flat-out play guitar! His best compadre Thomas leaves for diesel school near Dallas this Friday. Thomas says he will play the stage tonight and we can only hope Logan will join him.
Liam says he's game and there is likely to be a whole host of others to join them! Come on out and be part of the fun! Logan's Dad, Tom, is throwing a fundraiser for my boy including a silent auction with gazing balls, art, and decorative clay pots up for grabs. This might be your last chance to see 'Snowy', as he was known, for the next year or longer. He earned a half-ride scholarship( 1 of 2 awarded) to Lincoln College last April.
I heard last week's Open Mic started slow but I know it finished hot! Sorry about being late but I was riding a cherry-picker for all it was worth. Thanks go out to Tom and Will for running the show. I saw Stephen, Brent, Sammy, Joe Rossi and Mr. Nobody take turns jamming. Lady Jake brought out a friend who played early. I hope he comes again so I can meet him and hear his music.
We try to record everyone and give out CD's the following week. Sorry if we aren't batting 100% yet but we are sure trying. We certainly could use a back-up video camera with an audio-in feature to guarantee we get the clearest sound from the board as possible. Continued thanks go out George and all his energetic people for hosting us at Ghost Town. It is always a fun place to visit. George has been adding on to the maze again and has also built five more washer pits! I'm committed to building Ghost Town a box hockey set!
The Lunar Landing Party was Saturday and it was a blast! Once again I spent most of my day in a cherry picker and missed alot of the good Ghost Town fun. Unfortunately, I even missed George's Dad but I did get to meet George's sister and alot of George's friends who make a point to attend George's favorite annual event.
I heard rave reviews for the chicken fajitas George had brought in, but I didn't get to taste them because they sold-out early! I did get to hear my friends, Bonnie and Bull, play as Three Of A Kind with George on drums! Joe Rossi took the stage with his pastel melody, presenting itself as one mind-tripping gallop down Paisley Lane after another. I was delighted to hear Mr. Nobody play his new song 'For'. East Of Austin's David and Alana Adams played a great set with Sammy Barr.
There was another young pair of singers who played the stage bringing a fresh energetic sound. I hope Tom got their names and numbers. George's friend, the one I call Left-Handed Chris, continues to thrill me when he fires up his guitar. Besides all of the good music and great people, one of the highlights of the night was seeing the moon and its craters through top-of-the-line telescope. What a crisp image! Anyone interested in doing regular Sky Watching Nights at Ghost Town please contact me!
I hope to see you tonight 7/21) at the Open Mic as we send Thomas off to take on the world!
